Changing Things Up A Bit

Perhaps there are still a few people who read this site. Though if you don’t, I wouldn’t blame you. It hasn’t been updated since when? March? Is that when I went down to SXSW? Anyways, I’ve started a site that is a place where I can post random/personal/non-nerdy things or just generally express myself more.

I’d like to transition this into a more technical site, writing more specifically about some of the web development that I do and things of that general nature. I haven’t decided if I am going to archive the older stuff on the site, move it to the new site, or what. I don’t think it’s all that important right now though.

Plus, I’ve always wanted to have a domain with my name it. Preferably, just my name. However, there is some English guy who does world-beat music – or some such thing – and has the name. So, I came up with http://MrAsher.com. Follow that link if you want to hear me rant and rave about stuff.

Oh Crap.

I was playing around with WordPress 1.5 and kind of messed up my actual site, whoops. Working on fixing everything though. So, if you could all be a little patient with me, that would be super.

Did I miss anything else?

  1. Permalinks don’t work
  2. Trackback links dont’ work
  3. Comments are semi-broken
  4. Line spacing needs updated
  5. Stats are broken

WordPress 1.5, Strayhorn Release

I’m a big fan of WordPress. This site is currently running on version 1.3 alpha 2. It serves me well, however there are some issues that I have with it. Most notably the damn trackback spam. Version 1.3 is actually 1.5, I think. For some reason they changed it. Oh wait, here is the reason it was changed.

I’m just not too enthused about updating my templates and plugins. I’m sure I’m going to need to. With the multitude of changes they made, there has to be some update I need to make.

Meh. I’ll look into it. Maybe it won’t be so bad. It would give me a good kick in the ass to do some code clean up, think my-hacks.php, and to update some template things, think those ugly, weird angled bullets.

We’ll see.

Scheduled Downtime (For Me)

Just a little FYI for everyone: this morning I will finish up all my packing and complete my move to KC. Because it is the weekend, I can’t have my cable set up yet, so I’ll probably be offline for a while until I can arrange that. I have a computer at work (obviously) so I’ll probably have access to the internet and what not, just not like I normally am.

Oh, and Happy New Year.

Stupid Comment Spam

Lately, I’ve been getting some comment spam. It’s been pissing me off, too. I know there are people out there who have blogs and have 80 times more spam than I do, but I still don’t like it. As such, I’ve added a blacklist to comments. If you post a comment with one of the blacklisted words in it, it will go up for comment moderation. It won’t be posted until I accept it.

Also, I have added another required field to the comment section. You have to put the number that is in “17th Degree.” The answer is simply 17. This is a fairly simple attempt that should thwart the simple spam attacks I’m getting.

If anyone has any serious problems making a comment, shoot me an email at admin (at) 17thdegree.com or leave a comment here ( assuming you can 😉 )

That is all.
